The Essence of GaiaYoga Consciousness and Culture is the 5th GaiaYoga teaching book written by Ano Hanamana. After completing the 350-page magnum opus, The Four No-Bull Truths, a few people suggested Ano write a much shorter book that condensed that book’s message. Upon reflection, Ano agreed, and realized instead of actually “writing” a new book, the most effective approach would be to copy and paste chapters from previous books, and then refine, edit, and organize it into a coherent expression. That’s what this book is, along with a few new chapters.
Ano set out a goal of 50 pages, but that proved unrealistic. It ended up being 93 total pages. Unlike his two larger books, True Human Freedom and The Four No-Bull Truths, this book does not thoroughly explore every topic and subtopic within it. It just hits the broad points and leaves a lot of discussion and exploration to potentially have later. It is designed to be more than a taste, but not quite a whole meal. You can think of it as an hors d'oeuvre of the GaiaYoga teaching.
If you’re going to only read one GaiaYoga teaching book this is certainly the one. It condenses 30+ years of research in sustainable and holistic living and the consciousness and techniques that make that possible, into a very clear and digestible form. And if you like what you read, you might very well be motivated to read the rest of Ano’s books or to come visit GaiaYoga Gardens!
